Signs Your Gate Opener Needs Repair
Early warning signs that your gate opener is about to fail, and what each one usually means.
It's slower than it used to be
Operators don't normally slow down on their own. A gradual loss of speed often means a worn motor, a binding gate, or aging gear/chain components.
It reverses without an obvious reason
Could be a misaligned photo eye, a triggered edge sensor, or a control board reading false obstructions. Each has a different fix.
Loud grinding or clunking
Mechanical noise is the operator telling you something is wrong. Don't wait — running it to failure usually damages adjacent parts.
Remotes or keypads stop working
Often a battery or programming issue, sometimes a failing receiver. Easy to diagnose if you catch it early.
It only fails sometimes
Intermittent issues are usually electrical — loose connections, a failing board capacitor, or environmental interference. These get worse, not better.
